The next steps in Bajo del Toro Norte will be a pilot programme of 14 wells. The new agreements split the licence in two areas, Bajo del Toro Norte covering 113.8 square kilometres with an exploitation licence of 35 years and, Bajo del Toro, with the remaining 43 square kilometres with a four-year exploration licence extension. In 2021, the partners obtained new concessions from the province of Neuquén. The Bajo del Toro licence covers an area of around 157 square kilometres (38,800 acres) in the northern area of Vaca Muerta. Equinor holds a 50% interest and YPF, as the operator, has the remaining 50%. In August 2017, Equinor and, Argentina’s leading energy company YPF entered into an agreement to jointly explore hydrocarbons in the Bajo del Toro block. Future development includes drilling 300-500 additional wells and building an oil central processing facility with capacity of 75,000 barrels of oil per day. It covers around 228.5 square kilometres (56,000 acres) located in the core area of the prolific Vaca Muerta play. The block is in the early development phase with a current production of around 25,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day from 50 producer wells. YPF as the operator has a 40% interest and Shell, as non-operated partner, holds the remaining 30% equity interest. Bandurria SurĮquinor entered the licence in 2020 and holds a 30% non-operated interest. Equinor is a partner in the Bandurria Sur and Bajo del Toro licences. Vaca Muerta is a geological formation in the Neuquén basin covering 30,000 square kilometres, containing oil and gas at a depth of more than 2,500 metres below the surface. The main activities of IRAM are: standardization certification of products, processes and services certification of management systems education and training courses and running the Information Centre.Argentina’s unconventional oil and gas resources are among the world’s largest.

IRAM prepares the national positions before the respective technical committees of ISO and IEC (together with AEA). In close collaboration with Government, industry, consumers, technology and research it studies technical standards, which (when approved) are applied at national level on a voluntary basis - unless otherwise decided by a government authority, especially in the case of health and safety standards.

IRAM represents the Argentine Republic in ISO, IEC, together with AEA (Argentine Electrotechnical Association), COPANT (Pan American Standards Commission) and AMN (Asociación Mercosur de Normalización). On 2 February 1995, IRAM signed an agreement with the Secretariat of Industry, which contains rights and obligations for both parties. Stay up to date and learn about key human rights issues in Argentina. The System consists of a National Council, the Argentine Accreditation Body (OAA) and the Argentine Standardization Body (IRAM). International evaluates the human rights situation in countries around the world. The present relationship between the Government and IRAM is defined in Presidential Decree 1474/94, approved in August 1994, which establishes the National System for Standards, Quality and Certification. Founded in 1935, it became a legal entity in 1937 and was shortly afterwards granted recognition by the Government as the Central Organization for the technical and scientific study of standards, with the object of developing and maintaining uniformity of systems and criteria. The Instituto Argentino de Normalización y Certificación (IRAM) is a private non-profit body.
